New Hope Baptist Church’s History
Our Humble Beginning
Like Nehemiah, Pastor Theodore L. Deaver Sr. saw a need, rose up, captured a vision, laid out a plan and mobilized twelve others to join him in his cause. Thus, the New Hope Baptist Church was organized in January 1992 under his leadership.
The first worship service was held at Christa McAuliffe Middle Schools Auditorium on February 9, 1992. Sunday evening Worship Service and Wednesday Night Bible Study were held at Pastor Deaver's home.
As We Grew
In 1993, the church relocated to a business complex at 11246 South Post Oak, Suite 304 where growth continued both numerically and spiritually under Pastor Deaver’s Outreach Ministry leadership. This move made it possible for us to hold all our services in one location. In August of 1994, we moved to Suites 100 and 101 in the same complex, which doubled our square footage.
In early 1994, the church purchased 3.7 acres of land at 6430 Court Road at Chimney Rock. In late 1994, Reverend Howard Anderson, the Assistant Pastor interceded on behalf of the church with the officers at Texas Commerce Bank to acquire eight modular buildings with over 6,000 square feet of space. In 1995, Texas Commerce Bank decided to donate the buildings to the church. The buildings were moved from Champion Forest at FM 1960 to our land at 6430 Court Road shortly thereafter. In September of 1996, the first worship service was held at the new location, in the newly donated house of worship.
We became a member of the Southern Baptist Association in 1995. Through this partnership we were able to become a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church Alliance. Our relationship with Sugar Creek Baptist Church afforded us the opportunity of being the recipient of a substantial financial donation. This aided us in funding some much needed matters… parking, new sanctuary seating, a marquee, covered entry, and an upgrade to the outside appearance of the church.
Stepping Out on Faith
Pastor Deaver’s vision was to have a permanent house of God.
In November of 2000, we purposed in our hearts to build a new worship temple for God. Construction began in November 2001. The doors of the new sanctuary were opened on October 6, 2002. On December 8, 2002, the dedication of our new edifice was commemorated.
In June of 2003, Pastor Deaver once again felt it necessary to continue to strive for excellence within our community and within our membership by building a Family Life Center. Our goal was to provide a safe Christian environment for our youth. Concepts and architectural work were completed in January 2004 and the final release to start construction was issued in January 2005. Construction began in February 2005 and the Family Life Center was completed one year later. It is currently utilized for Youth Church Services, ministry gatherings, meetings, and community fellowship activities.
Furthering Pastor Deaver’s vision, on June 1, 2006 Whispering Hope Christian Academy (WHCA) was founded and organized as an affiliate of New Hope Baptist Church with the assistance of Deacon Ronald Williams and wife Deon Williams. In Addition, three teachers, Patricia Ford, Mary Whittaker, and Daphne Ford decided to lead this effort. Pastor Deaver had only one requirement, that they be Christians. Located on the campus of New Hope Baptist Church, WHCA educated Pre-K to ninth grade. WHCA’s founding principles were Faith, Hope, Love, and Sisterhood. Due to unforeseen circumstances WHCA was closed in 2017.
Theodore L. Deaver Sr., Senior Pastor and Founder served faithfully for twenty-three years. He was a servant and a leader and gave selflessly of himself to the church. There wasn’t anything that he would ever ask or expect that he was not willing to roll up his sleeve and do himself. On January 4, 2015 he preached his final sermon from I Kings 2:1-4, titled “The Charge”. Pastor Theodore L. Deaver Sr. made his transition on January 10, 2015.
In October of 2016, the Family Life Center was dedicated in Pastor Deaver’s honor and named the Theodore L. Deaver Sr. Family Life Center. Concurrently the Theodore L. Deaver Sr. Library of Higher Learning along with the cornerstone were unveiled in his most supreme honor.
God Continues to Bless and Direct Our Path
Reverend Benjamin E. Price was called to serve as Senior Pastor of New Hope Baptist Church. He commenced his pastoral ministry on January 1, 2016.
At New Hope Baptist Church, we believe that God’s mandate to make disciples is our greatest privilege and responsibility. We are therefore committed to fulfilling our purpose through worship, fellowship, ministry, outreach, and Christian education.
We strive to develop a more intimate relationship with our God to serve Him completely and joyfully. As God continues to strengthen us and increase our spiritual wisdom, we know that we will live in ways that honor and please Him. Our fervent prayer is that New Hope Baptist Church will stand as a beacon of light in the community through which we endeavor to spread the gospel.
We give God all the Thanks and the Honor for where He has brought us from and where He is leading the New Hope Baptist Church. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
